Northwest Cosmetic Labs Becomes 100% Green Power Purchaser
Idaho Falls, Idaho – April 08, 2011
In June 2010, Northwest Cosmetic Labs, a Gary Voigt owned company, became an EPA Green Power Partner, purchasing 12% of its annual energy usage from renewable sources, namely wind. However, for 2011, Northwest Cosmetic Labs expanded its partnership to ensure 100% of its annual energy needs are supplied through wind. Northwest Cosmetic Labs is the first personal care and cosmetic product contract manufacturer to supply 100% of its energy needs through renewable sources under the EPA’s Green Power Partnership program.
According to Justin Manwaring, Northwest Cosmetic Labs’ Director of Purchasing, “Sustainability is a dominant theme in the cosmetic industry and a topic of concern for many of our customers and suppliers. Becoming an EPA Power partner and committing to purchase 100% of our power through clean renewable energy is one of many initiatives all aimed at demonstrating our commitment to increased global sustainability. We anticipate this will prove to be a key element in setting us apart from our competitors in the cosmetic industry, and will aid us in attracting and keeping like-minded customers.”
Northwest Cosmetic Labs’ green power purchase avoids 553 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This is the equivalent of removing 106 passenger vehicles from the road each year.
The Green Power Partnership program was created to encourage the voluntary use of green power, while supporting the development of new, renewable energy in the United States. Green power is electricity produced from renewable resources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, and low-impact hydro.
