Northwest Cosmetic Labs Press Release

Chemistry for the Community

Idaho Falls, Idaho – February 16, 2016

Imani Mann helping a participant make lotion

Northwest Cosmetic Labs welcomed 30 local girls ages 12-18 from the community to a “Creative Chemist Day.” NCL’s own chemists, Ally Hunter (R&D Director) and Imani Mann (Lab Technician), put the event together. Matt Bryant (CEO) was also in attendance. The girls experienced hands-on activities, showing them how to make lip-gloss and hand lotion from start to finish. The girls were given the responsibility to measure and fill their own bottles of lotion and lip-gloss using water, emulsifiers, and thickeners. Imani Mann, one of our 6 full-time chemist, said this about her experience, “ I used to be the president of the chemistry society for my college and I loved teaching young kids about chemistry, especially young girls. There, unfortunately, are not a lot of women in the chemistry field and I think this experience gave them the opportunity to see how fun and broad science is.”

Following the mixture of the products, the girls were able to choose from a variety of flavors, fragrances, shades and shimmers to customize their formula. “It was hopping!” Matt Bryant (CEO) said of the night, “all of the girls were laughing and smiling, they had a great time. One of the girls ran back in at the end of the night and said to me ‘I thought I wanted to be a doctor but now I want to be a doctor or a cosmetic chemist! Do you mind if I take some gloves home?’ It was fun to watch them actuallty create something and not just be lectured at. It is great to help young women become more interested in the scientific world”. NCL always tries to give back to the community. NCL is invested in the local community and loves to educate the future of not only this country, but this company. NCL thanks all of the girls and parents who came and our chemists for being so willing to help.
